Sunnyvale Wrestling Club is excited to announce the return of Opening Weekend, a two-day wrestling event kicking off the high school season. This year’s event features a Saturday clinic with Olympian, NCAA Champion, and NCAA pin record-holder “Mean” Gene Mills, known for his aggressive, fall-focused style and dedication to youth wrestling. On Sunday, the action continues with the SCVWA Black Sheep Classic Tournament, bringing together top talent from across the region. Building on the success of last year’s event with Kendall Cross, Opening Weekend is quickly becoming a premier wrestling tradition in the South Bay.

This season, all practices and sessions will be held at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, CA, providing a central location for wrestlers across the area.
SUNNYVALE, CA — Sunnyvale Wrestling Club is excited to announce that summer registration is now open for our off-season strength and conditioning program, hosted in partnership with Virtus Sports Performance.
This program is specifically designed for Middle School and High School Sunnyvale Wrestling Club athletes who want to build strength, improve athleticism, and stay competition-ready during the summer break. It’s an excellent way to maintain progress and come back stronger for the fall wrestling season.
The Santa Clara Valley Wrestling Association (SCVWA) had an outstanding performance at the 2025 California USA Wrestling Association Duals, held May 16–18 at the Fresno Convention Center. Competing against elite programs from across the state, SCVWA walked away with two division championships and top placements in all contested brackets.
The High School Boys Team dominated the Freestyle division, capturing 1st place with a strong lineup that consistently delivered from the opening round through the finals. Their Greco-Roman team also performed admirably, battling through a tough bracket to finish in 4th place.
On the girls’ side, the High School Girls Team earned the top podium spot in the Greco-Roman division, showcasing technical prowess and toughness in every bout. They also placed 3rd in the Freestyle division, continuing their run as one of California's most competitive squads.
