Sunnyvale Wrestling Club Opens Season at SCVWA Quick Silver Open

Sunnyvale Wrestling Club opened the Freestyle and Greco-Roman season with a strong showing at the SCVWA Quick Silver Open on March 22, 2026, at Silver Creek High School in San Jose. Bringing a large group of athletes across all age divisions, Sunnyvale demonstrated both depth and competitiveness to start the spring season.

The team was well represented throughout the tournament, with wrestlers competing in dozens of matches across Freestyle and Greco-Roman, gaining valuable early-season experience while also producing multiple top finishes.

Several Sunnyvale wrestlers put together standout performances on the mat. Ethan Goodwin (10U) delivered a dominant day, earning a 13-3 technical fall in Freestyle and a 10-0 technical fall in Greco-Roman on his way to double championships. Adrian Hernandez (14U) was equally impressive, recording multiple technical falls—including an 18-8 Greco victory—and a pin as he captured titles in both styles.

At the upper levels, Aydan McCune (16U) showed strong form with multiple technical falls, including a 10-0 win in just 27 seconds. Landen Squires (Junior Boys) put together a consistent run with several technical fall victories, while Jorge Villagomez added a dominant 10-0 performance in the heavyweight division.

In the girls divisions, Lillian Fonceca (Junior Girls) stood out with an impressive tournament, earning wins by both pin and technical fall—including a 13-2 technical fall—as she claimed championships in Freestyle and Greco-Roman. McKenzie McCune also had a strong showing, recording multiple wins including a 26-second pin, on her way to a freestyle title in the 12U division and an additional podium finish in 14U.

Sunnyvale also saw strong contributions from a deep group of place winners. Santiago Lopez (12U) and Joaquin De Anda (14U) each earned runner-up finishes, while Dwight Cahiga (Junior Boys) and Maya Camarena (Junior Girls) also placed second in their divisions. Third-place finishes came from Adhiraj Sangle (10U), Noah Talledo (12U), Eric Santamaria (16U), and Jorge Luis Miranda Guadarrama (Junior Boys), with additional top-four finishes from Anthony Ortiz Escobedo, Kennedy Ancheta, and Sean Stiles.

Throughout the day, Sunnyvale wrestlers showed resilience in long brackets, with several athletes bouncing back after early losses. Adhiraj Sangle secured a quick pin in 31 seconds later in the tournament, while Dwight Cahiga rebounded with a technical fall and a pin to finish strong.

With a high level of participation and success across age groups, Sunnyvale Wrestling Club built a solid foundation to begin the Freestyle and Greco season.

The team returns to competition next weekend at the SCVWA Combat King Open, scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Palo Alto High School.
