Cadet and Junior Freestyle State and Schoolboy Greco State Results

Sunnyvale Wrestling Club walked away from the CA USAW State Tournament this weekend with one Fargo qualifier and several placers. You can see full results by clicking the following button:

Our only schoolboy, Cole Feliciano, wrestling in his first Greco Tournament, finished in 4th place.

The Cadet team was led by a solid performance by sophomore Angelo Reyes (113 lbs.) who finished in 2nd and punched his ticket to Fargo. Also placing at the Cadet Tournament was freshman Taniela "Nela" Feliciano Takafua (170 lbs.) who finished in 4th place. Sophomore Ryan Lee (113 lbs.) also wrestled well finishing in the top 12. Sophomores Robert Reyno (126 lbs.) and Sam Ibanez (138 lbs.) also won some hard fought matches against tough opponents, while freshman Akhil Vega (100 lbs.) made the cut to find himself in an extremely tough bracket.

Many of the Cadets also wrestled Juniors, getting the most bang for their buck when making a trip like this. I am extremely proud that so many guys were willing to do this rather then sitting in the stands waiting for their ride home. The Junior team brought home 3 medals: Dominick Huerta (170 lbs.) finished 5th, Ezra Clark (138 lbs.) finished 7th, and Angelo Reyes (113 lbs.) finished 4th. There were also two wrestlers who finished in the top 12, Louis Gueziec (120 lbs.) and Jeremiah Holbrook (285 lbs.). Jeremiah Holbrook (285 lbs.) had the story of the day defeating two time state placer and returning champion Jake Minshew with a nasty front headlock. Akhil Vega (100 lbs.) came back from a tough Saturday to get some more mat time and get his first state win under his belt. He is a work horse with the right attitude, look for his name in the future. Also, Robert Reyno (126 lbs.), Taniela "Nela" Feliciano Takafua (170 lbs.), Sam Ibanez (138 lbs.), Josh Aceves (138 lbs.), David Tran (138 lbs.), and Yong Song (138 lbs.) competed and wrestled tough.

We had a good group for this tournament and brought home some hardware. This is one of two Fargo qualifiers in our state and we need to be ready for Greco in June. Keep working hard!
